About Aptila

Building for the long run.

The parent company of a two-tier group across mining, trade, logistics and travel — what it does, how it’s put together, and why.

01

Why the Group exists

Africa does not have a shortage of good businesses. It has a shortage of owners willing to hold them long enough to become good.

Aptila Holding was built to be that owner. Not a vehicle with a clock on it, not a conglomerate absorbing companies into a single balance sheet — a parent that takes positions in real operating businesses and stays.

02

What we do

Aptila Holding does not trade. It owns.

In practice, that means Holding allocates capital between the Group’s companies, sets the governance each board operates under, defines the Group accounting policy and reporting calendar, and consolidates each company’s management accounts into one picture of the Group.

What it deliberately does not do is run the businesses. Each company has its own board, its own management and its own profit and loss. Holding sets the standard and the capital; the operators operate.

03

How we’re structured

Aptila Capital is a sub-holding company within the Group. It holds Boocom Mining and Afristok — the Group’s resource and trading businesses — each keeping its own name and brand rather than being absorbed into Aptila.

Aptila Logistics and Aptila Heritage are held directly by Aptila Holding, outside that portfolio.

Where companies in different parts of the Group do business with each other — Afristok booking haulage with Aptila Logistics, for example — they contract at arm’s length, on the same terms either would offer an outside counterparty.

04

Why we structure it this way

Liability stays where it is created.

Mining carries environmental, safety and community risk. Trading carries counterparty and price risk. Travel carries none of either. A claim against one company should not reach the others, and in this structure it does not.

Each business can fund itself.

A mine, a trading book and a travel business are financed in completely different ways. Separate companies can each raise what they need without cross-collateralising the whole Group.

Each business gets the board it needs.

A mining board needs geological and environmental expertise. An investment board needs an independent investment committee. One generalist board serves neither well.

Shared name, separate risk.

The Aptila name signals the same discipline and the same long-term outlook wherever it appears. Behind it, every operating company remains its own legal person — for liability, for licensing and for accountability.

Where we work

Aptila is built and run from inside the markets it serves. Nairobi is home; the Group’s companies operate across 10 African countries, and its reach follows its businesses, not a map drawn in advance.
