Responsibility
The standards we hold ourselves to.
The Group operates in sectors where doing things properly and doing things quickly are often in tension — mining above all. Where they are, we would rather be slow.
Each section below sets out the standard, where the Group stands against it today, and what it will publish.
01
Community
The standard
Kenya’s Mining Act makes a Community Development Agreement a condition of large-scale mineral rights. We regard that as a floor, not a target.
A mining business that has to be compelled into a community agreement has already lost the relationship that matters most to it.
Where we are
Boocom Mining’s operations are just starting. Engagement with the communities around them is being set up alongside the operations themselves.
What we’ll publish
Progress here as Boocom’s operations are established, and any Community Development Agreement once it is in place.
02
Environment
The standard
Mining and haulage are both licensed under Kenya’s environmental framework, and both require an environmental impact assessment before operations begin.
The Group treats those assessments as a design input, not a filing.
Where we are
Environmental assessment and licensing are being put in place as Boocom’s operations start. No licence is listed below until it has been granted.
- No licences are listed yet. Each appears here, dated, once granted.
What we’ll publish
Each licence, with the date it was granted, as it is granted.
03
Health and safety
The standard
Everyone who works in or around a Group operation — employees, contractors and neighbours — should go home in the condition they arrived.
Each company is responsible for the safety of its own operations, and the Group holds every company to the same standard.
Where we are
Safety systems for Boocom’s operations are being set up as those operations start.
What we’ll publish
The Group’s health and safety policy, once it is adopted.
04
Ethics, and how to raise a concern
The standard
Anyone — inside the Group or outside it — should be able to raise a concern about conduct at any Group company, and know it will be read.
Where we are
A dedicated channel is being set up. Until it’s in place, email info@aptilagroup.com with “Confidential” in the subject line.
What we’ll publish
The dedicated channel, once it is in place — here and on the contact page.
